American Dream is Still Alive – Homeownership Still Viewed as a Great Investment

June 13, 2011

According to a survey, 75% of American’s still think home ownership is a great investment. Many of them believe that owning a home is the best long-term investment they can make and is worth the risk of ups and downs in the housing market. The survey also found that optimism about home ownership didn’t matter whether they were profiting or underwater on their home. Of the same respondents, 80% of them say that they would recommend homeownership to their friends and family. Surprisingly, homeowners who owe more than their house is worth still recommend homeownership just as much as those who are in a better housing situation. With this thought in mind, even more buyers are coming into the market, and those who do not own their own home have it in mind. The American Dream is to own a home in suburbia with a white picket fence, a family, and a dog and research shows that this is still a goal of many Americans. This bodes well for what the market can be, and with the new difficulties in getting loans, hopefully people will focus on saving more to be able to meet requirements for purchasing a home.
